Kenya grenade attack injures ten
Tourist resort attack is an act of terrorism, police say
At least 10 people have been injured in a grenade attack at a Kenyan tourist resort in Mombasa, police said.
Attackers hurled the device into a Tandoori bar in the town of Diani in the early hours of Thursday when the bar had been full of revellers.
Labelling the attack as an "act of terrorism", local police chief Jack Ekakuro said that three people threw a grenade at the nightclub from the other side of the road.
"At least ten people were injured before the attackers escaped on a motorbike," he said.
"It cannot be anything else but a terrorist attack," he went on to say.
Police said the injured were taken to hospital and are in a stable condition.
Kenya is a popular draw for tourists but has been plagued by attacks blamed on Islamist militants. Moreover, police said that this is not the first grenade attack on a tourist spot.
Somalia's al-Shabab group has staged several attacks in Kenya, including one on the Westgate shopping centre in September 2013, since Kenya sent troops to fight it in Somalia.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
