UK government to ‘auction off’ visas

UK government proposes to auction off visas to highest bidders or sold in exchange for good causes.

The UK government's official advisers have proposed that visas for foreign millionaires should be auctioned to the highest bidders or sold in exchange for donations to hospitals and universities.

According to The Times, investments of £1 million, £5 million or £10 million can be made in gifts, or government bonds, or in British businesses in return for permission to apply for permanent residence in five, three or two years respectively. Applicants, the media reports, can then seek UK citizenship.

But critics of the system said it would be "absurd" for offering visas for sale without any long-term investment.

The proposals were made amid fears that the existing interior visa route was not working to the country's economic advantage and has become a cheap way for many wealthy Russians and Chinese to remain indefinitely.

HO, HO HO. THIS SOUNDS VERY MUCH LIKE THE PL IIP Citizenship scheme. What does Simon Busuttil have to say about this now. Is Europe making a laughing stock of Britain as simple Simon attributed to Malta. His stands are so childish, being discredited shortly after he utters them, that he needs to sit down, shut up and learn before he can call himself a politician.

The British have noted the competition, and have acted fast in their national interest. Unlike the local political Opposition, who are dead bent on destroying Malta's refinancing initiatives. After all, it is these bas**rds that ruined Malta's finances in the first place; but I suppose their vaults are full now, so who cares.
