Airstrike hits Gaddafi compound
Allied airstrikes have pounded Libya for the second night last night, destroying a building a few yards away from Gaddafi’s private residence.
A missile has struck what a coalition officer has described as Col Muammar Gaddafi’s “command and control capability.”
This morning, Libyan officials took reporters around the area to she them a three-floor building which stood in ruin along with shrapnel, apparently from the missile.
The building was about 50 yards from Gaddafi’s famous tent where he meets guests in Tripoli. The attack was part of a renewed allied assault on Libya involving British submarines and RAF Tornado jets.
According to the Ministry of Defence, one mission last night involving RAF Tornado jets, was aborted after it emerged there were civilians within the target area.
Meanwhile in Benghazi, the rebel stronghold, fighting has continued between rebels and pro-Gaddafi troops.
