Japan nuclear plant water leaking into the sea

Radioactive water is leaking from Japan’s quake-stricken nuclear plant of Fukushima into the Pacific Ocean.

According to the country’s nuclear safety authority, the dangerous liquid was seeping from cracks in the concrete pit of the facility’s reactor number 2.

However it is not yet clear how much water has been leaking from the pit into the sea.

News media report Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) officials as saying it was possible the crack may be the source of recent radiation contamination in the sea off the northeast coast.

The deputy director-general of the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said TEPCO was planning to pour concrete into the pit to seal the crack.
