Former Egypt president Mubarak and sons due in court next week

Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons are to be questioned in a Cairo court next week, according to the country's state television.

The 82-year-old and his sons Gamal and Alaa will reportedly be questioned by a judge on Tuesday.

Accusations against Mubarak include abuse of power during his 30-year rule, embezzlement of funds and that he ordered protesters to be killed.

On Wednesday Egypt's state prosecutor ordered the detention of Mubarak and his two sons for 15 days.

He is being guarded in a hospital in Sharm el Sheikh after suffering from what state media called a "heart crisis".

He has been in internal exile at his home at the Red Sea resort since being ousted on February 11.

His two sons are being held in a prison on the outskirts of Cairo.

The same jail is also holding number of former government ministers and officials who are in detention pending investigations into the Mubarak regime.

Hundreds of thousands demonstrated in Cairo's Tahrir Square last Friday to protest about delays in bringing the former president to trial.

A military council assumed power after Mubarak was forced out of office and has faced criticism it was being too lenient.

Hassan Nafaa, a political scientist and activist for reform, said the detention had ended "any suspicion that the state and the military were in cahoots with Mubarak".
