German yachtsman feared dead, ‘eaten by cannibals’

A German yachtsman is feared to have been eaten by cannibals after he disappeared last month on a remote tropical island.

The Telegraph reports that Stefan Ramin, a 40-year-old yachtsman from Hamburg disappeared on the tropical island of Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia. After weeks of searching for the German, police found “charred human remains” and clothes have been found near a campfire.

Even though it is expected to take weeks, testing in Paris will confirm whether the ashes belong to the yachtsman.

The newspaper reports that the discovery has raised fears Ramin could have been attacked and eaten by cannibals.

Police officers are also looking for the guide who took Ramin on a goat hunting trip. The local guide informed Ramin’s girlfriend, Heike Dorsch, that Ramin had been attacked. When she tried to ask for help, the guide reportedly tied her to a tree and escaped.
