Carla Bruni gives birth to Sarkozy's first daughter

French President Nicolas Sarkozy reportedly missed the birth of his baby daughter as he attended talks in Germany on the eurozone crisis.

Carla Bruni, the French President’s wife, gave birth to a baby girl, marking the first baby in modern history to be born to a French presidential couple in office.

According to French media reports, Sarkozy spent just 30 minutes with his wife in a private hospital before boarding a jet to go to Germany for talks on the eurozone crisis.

He returned back at around 11pm where he found his first daughter – rumoured to be named Dahlia – born. Sarkozy is already father to three sons, born from his first marriage.
