Deadly car bomb hits Syrian hospital

At least nine killed as blast goes near field hospital in Syrian border town

An explosives-laden vehicle has exploded and killed at least nine people near a field hospital in the northern Syria, close to the Turkey border.

Activists said the blast happened in the rebel-held town of Atmeh, which hosts a camp for thousands of people displaced by Syria's civil war.

It was not immediately clear who carried out the attack but Atmeh is in territory held by rebels fighting to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Atmeh also holds a camp for thousands of displaced Syrians.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Turkey's state-run Anadolu agency both reported the incident in the northwestern Syrian town of Atmeh.

Andalou said several people were killed and wounded.

On its part, Turkish news said several people were killed and wounded, while one unconfirmed report said nine people had died. It also reported that Turkish ambulances raced across the border to help the wounded.

According to UN figures, 6.5 million Syrians have been displaced by Syria's civil war and 2.5 million are registered as refugees.

Lebanon has taken the highest number of refugees, followed by Jordan and Turkey.
