AD nominee is Greens’ leading candidate for EC presidency

European Greens elect two leading candidates for European Commission presidency

International environmentalist and French farmer José Bové and German MEP Ska Keller have been selected to lead the Europea Greens in their upcoming European campaign as winners of a unique Green Primary, the first ever Europe-wide open online process to select leading candidates for the European elections.

Bové and Keller will be the figureheads of the third common Green European campaign, and lead the united Green parties of Europe in spreading the message that we can and will bring the change that EU so desperately needs.

Socialist parties have already chosen Martin Schulz as their candidate for the Presidency of the European Commission.

Alternattiva Demokratika chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said the Green party was delighted with the result.

"We are delighted to see that the young candidate nominated by AD and supported actively by ADZ-Malta Green Youth as part of the FYEG platform, Ska Keller, is one of the two winners. Together with world-renowned environmentalist José Bové, she will make a formidable tandem that will help to push green politics on the European front and continue making civil society the real protagonist of political decisions."

For the last two and a half months, voters in every single EU member state have taken part in this unique e-democracy project. Green leading candidates José Bové and Ska Keller, along with Monica Frassoni and Rebecca Harms, travelled across Europe to put their vision for the future of the EU to voters, giving people the chance to confront them directly in live debates in ten different cities, and in online chats and live hangouts.

22,656 people voted overall; Ska Keller received 11,791 votes, José Bové received 11,726 votes, Rebecca Harms received 8,170 votes, and Monica Frassoni received 5,851 votes.

The European Greens were the only political family who have chosen to open up the process of selecting their top politicians.
