At least 13 people, including women and children, have been killed in an explosion as Taliban fighters prepared a car bomb in southern Afghanistan, officials said
An explosion in southern Afghanistan has killed at least 13 people, including women and children, emergency officials said.
The blast in eastern Logar province killed nine fighters, as well as two women and two children who were nearby.
The explosion struck as Taliban fighters prepared a car bomb.
A spokesman for the governor said it was probably a case of the fighters being killed by their own weapon after the explosion was allegedly being prepared for an attack.
The explosives detonated prematurely as they were being placed in a car in a house in Puli Alam, the capital of Logar province, deputy provincial police chief Abdul Wali Toofan said.
