Ukrainian Ex-leader Yanukovich makes first appearance since being ousted

Viktor Yanukovich intends to 'struggle for the future of the Ukraine'

Ukraine's ex-president Viktor Yanukovich has made his first appearance, in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, since being ousted from office last Saturday.

In a press conference, close to the Ukrainian border, Yanukovich pledged to 'fight for Ukraine' and called the upheaval in Kiev that resulted in his expulsion the result of a 'gangsters coup'.

He accused the new parliament of being illegitimate, the situation in the capital as 'lawless chaos'. He said he would return to the country "as soon as there are guarantees for my security and that of my family".

Two airports in Crimea have been occupied by what are suspected to be pro-Russian militia as tension builds in the region, which is home to part of the Russian navy and both Ukraine loyalists and pro-Russian supporters.
