Egypt’s new PM vows to end militant violence, rebuild economy

Egypt’s new prime minister says his main aims are to wipe out militant violence and improve the economy.

Ibrahim Mahlab also expressed hope of forming a government within three or four days.

Mahlab’s appointment follows the surprise resignation of the entire government on Monday.

Bombings and shootings by militant Islamist groups have become commonplace since the army deposed Islamic Brotherhood leader Mohamed Mursi after mass protests against his rule.

Mahlab said his government would work to provide a secure climate for a presidential election.
