Kevin Lau, the former chief editor of Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao, was stabbed in an attack by an unknown assailant and is fighting for his life.
The attack occurred earlier today in Hong Kong. Lau was left bleeding with a serious injury to his lung after an attacker stabbed him multiple times before escaping on a motorcycle driven by another man, according to police. He was taken to the city’s Eastern Hospital.
Lau became the centre of controversy after his sudden dismissal from his post last month. Journalists were outraged after Lau was sacked from his postition at Ming Pao, a newspaper with a reputation for hard-hitting reporting on China in. His removal sparked fears that the newspaper’s independence was at risk. Some journalists left their columns blank in protest and many others signed a petition demanding an explanation for Lau's removal.
