Israel and Palestine to resume direct talks

The New York Times reported that, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to announce that Israel and the Palestinians will resume direct peace talks.

The American newspaper cited to two unnamed officials saying that Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, “have agreed to place a one-year time limit on the talks.”

In September, it is also expected that US President Barack Obama is expected to invite Israel and Palestine to start talking negotiations, addressing “final status” issues, including the status of Jerusalem and the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

Despite pressures on both sides, face-to-face negotiations between the two countries have been on hold for nearly two years now.
