Coal mine explosion kills 200 in Turkey
An explosion in a coal mine in Turkey's Manisa province has left at least 201 dead while authorities race against time to free others trapped inside.
The explosion occurred yesterday, trapping 787 workers. Of those recovered alive, 80 were injured, four of them seriously. Hundreds gathered to watch rescuers bring up miners to the surface, hoping to catch a glimpse of their loved ones.
The trapped miners are about 4km from the entrance of the mine and about 2km deep underground. Fire crews are pumping clean air into the tunnels for those still trapped inside.
The explosion is thought to have been triggered by an electrical fault.
