India's ruling party concedes defeat
Opposition candidate Narendra Modi will be the next prime minister of India, with early election results on Friday showing the pro-business Hindu nationalist and his party headed for the biggest victory the country has seen in 30 years.
Modi, 63, chief minister of the western state of Gujarat, had campaigned on a message of economic revitalization at a time when the country is facing a stalled economy.
Election officials had not yet finished counting the 550 million votes cast in the five-week general elections, but indications of the Bharatiya Janata Party's victory are already clear.
