Women, children killed in Iraq blast
Car bomb attack in Samarra kills 31
Thirty two people, including women and children have been killed by a car bomb in Iraq this morning according to a report by Alghadeer News. The explosion is reported to have taken place in a town south of Samarra, 125km north of Baghdad, this morning.
The attack was apparently targeting a gathering of Shiite popular militia in the district south of Samarra, Salahuddin and a number of volunteers are reportedly among the dead and wounded. "The security force cordoned off the scene, while ambulances ferried the injured to hospital for treatment and the bodies of the martyrs to the forensic medicine department” said the report.
The attack is part of the continuing conflict between Iraqi government forces and Islamic State (IS) militants in the region. Thirty-two people, including women and children, were killed and 14 others wounded yesterday in an attack by government warplanes on a school believed to be harbouring relatives of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
