Charlie Hebdo investigator kills himself after meeting victim's relatives
Helric Fredou, 45, shot himself in his office on Wednesday night in Limoges, a city in central France.
French police commissioner Helric Fredou has reportedly committed suicide just hours after meeting the relatives of a victim murdered at the satirical magazine's offices.
The 45-year-old is believed to have shot himself in his office with his own police-issue gun on Wednesday night in Limoges, according to France 3. His body was found by a colleague at 1am on Thursday.
Commissioner Fredou had been the deputy director of the regional police since 2012 after beginning his career as a police officer in 1997.
Colleagues told France 3 he was single and had no children, describing him as “depressed” and overworked.
The Union of National Police Commissioners sent its “sincere condolences” to his Commissioner Fredou and said they were thinking especially of his colleagues.
