The former President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak has seen his last remaining conviction overturned and a retrial being ordered by the Egyptian court.

Mubarak was jailed for three years in May after being found guilty of diverting public funds into private projects. His two sons were given a four year prison sentence in the same case. However, the Court of Cassation said that legal procedures were not followed properly.

The 86 year-old, who ruled Egypt for thirty years has been serving his sentence in a military hospital in Cairo, but the retrial means that Mubarak could soon walk free as there are no longer any convictions against him.

Last November, another court dropped charges against Mubarak for conspiring to kill protesters in the 2011 revolt that ousted him from power. He faces retrial for a third and final time over charges of involvement in the death of demonstrators.
