Islamic State commander Abdul Rauf killed in Afghanistan drone strike

According to officials, a drone strike in Afghanistan has killed an Islamic State militant leader who just recently swore allegiance to the cause.

The former Taliban commander Mullah Abdul Rauf has been killed according to Telmand police chief.

Rauf had sworn allegiance to IS after falling out with Taliban. Rauf, had previously spent six years in Guantanamo Bay after being captured by US forces in 2001.

Tribal elders in the area have said that a car carrying up to six people was destroyed while crossing the desert. The car was reportedly loaded with ammunition when it exploded.

The Afghan Intelligence Agency has also confirmed Rauf’s death but Nato sources have not yet confirmed the news.
