Bali Nine pair's appeals adjourned until next week

The appeal proceedings have been postponed by a week because the lawyer representing the president did not have the correct documentation

The legal appeals of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have been adjourned until next week, because the president did not have sufficient legal representation.

Lawyers for the pair appeared in the State Administrative Court in Jakarta to appeal against the court's decision last month to dismiss a case against the president.

The two members of the Bali Nine drug smuggling group are attempting to challenge president Joko Widodo's decision to deny clemency to any drug smugglers, without exception.

Today's hearing was meant to allow lawyers for the pair to make their cases, and the president's representative the chance to respond.

But the lawyer representing the president arrived without signed legal authority.

He was carrying a letter signed by Widodo but it was lacking the required signature of attorney-general Muhammad Prasetyo.

Prasetyo was also required to issue another letter authorising the legal team, which was not completed.

The cases have been adjourned until March 19.
