The Lausanne talks on Iran’s nuclear development have been suspended to allow Iranian delegates to attend the funeral of President Rohani’s mother.

The deadline for an agreement to be reached is March 31, however little progress has been registered in talks about Tehran’s atomic research and the lifting of Western sanctions.

Intensive negotiations ended inconclusively after six days. The Iranian foreign minister has promised to return to Lausanne with his deputies to resume negotiations next week.

US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed hope that this year would bring progress, describing the talks as a historic opportunity on the advent of Iranian New Year.

“This new day will be a new day for the entire world, a new era for greater understanding and peace,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif responded.
