According to international reports, the wreckage of a US military helicopter that went missing in Nepal has been found.

The helicopter went missing earlier this week while delivering aid near the Chinese border, with six US marines and two Nepali soldiers on board.

Thee AFP news agency reports that it was unknown whether there were any survivors and the editor of the Nepal Times has said that the wreckage of the aircraft was found some 56 km away from Kathmandu.

The disappearance of the helicopter had baffled many experienced pilots, as it was reported the aircraft was was equipped with a GPS device, radio and emergency beacon. CNN reported that radio transmissions indicated its crew was having some type of fuel problem before it went missing.

The helicopter vanished late Tuesday night following an aftershock of 7.3 magnitude, that rocked Nepal earlier that day, killing some 96 people. It was on its way to deliver aid in the hard-hit district of Dolakha, east of Kathmandu in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck the Himalayan nation on April 25, killing thousands of people
