John Kerry injured in cycling accident
US Secretary of State John Kerry has suffered a broken right leg in a cycling accident in the French Alps.
Kerry has had to cancel planned visits to Madrid and Paris and return to the US for treatment, as a result, but is expected to make a full recovery.
According to a state department official, Kerry apparently hit a curb and came off his bicycle. No other vehicles were involved. He was flown by medical helicopter to Geneva’s main hospital.
The accident took place while Kerry was out cycling one day after meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Geneva for negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
The 71-year-old politician is a keen cyclist and often takes his own bike with him on official trips.
