Tanker leaks fuel in N. Sea after collision off Dutch coast

A tanker with jet fuel and a container ship collided some 30 km off the Dutch coast at Scheveningen, the Dutch ANP news agency reported this morning.

ANP added that there was a hole of five-by-six metres in the hull of the tanker and highly flammable fuel was leaking.

Peter van Oorschot, a spokesman for the Dutch Coast Guard, told BNR Radio that the tanker was leaking and had a crew of 25.

The Cypriot container ship has a crew of 12 and has asked permission to sail for Rotterdam.

The Arka oil dispersion ship and rescue vessels are on their way to the site, he said.
