600 terror suspects arrested in Turkey

Turkey has arrested close to 600 terror suspects whilst warplanes carried out attacks against ISIS and other militant targets in a day-long military operation, Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has announced.

The strikes, which come just days after ISIS militants killed a Turkish soldier in border clashes, targeted ISIS and members of the Kurdistan Worker's Party or PKK.

Earlier this week, over 30 people were killed in a suicide blast in Suruc, a town on the Turkish border with Syria. Turkish authorities are saying that ISIS is behind the attack, one of the deadliest terror attacks to hit the country in years. Early indications pointed to involvement by ISIS in the Suruc bombing, Davutoglu said, though the investigation into the attacks was still underway.

The explosion hit a gathering of mainly Kurdish activists who were calling for more help to rebuild the Syrian city of Kobani, the scene of intense fighting between ISIS and predominantly Kurdish forces last autumn.

The terrorism suspects arrested come from all over the country, Davutoglu said.
