13 killed at Mexico detox centre

13 retirees were shot and killed at a Mexican detoxification centre near the city of Tijuana.

The reason for the killing has not yet been established, but it is thought to be linked to the drug war which this year has already claimed the lives of thousands of Mexicans.

The killings may be connected to the 105 tonnes of marijuana which were seized by police officials last week. The drugs were estimated to have a value of 305 million dollars in Mexico, but once in the United States the amount could have doubled or tripled.

This year only, more than 7,000 lives have been claimed making it the deadliest year since President Fedel Castro launched a war on drug cartels in 2006.
