30 people die in two explosions at a mosque in Maiduguri, Nigeria

An estimated 30 people have died after two explosions at a mosque near the north-eastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, according to international press.

Agence France-Presse has suggested however, that the death toll could be as high as 42.

Reports say that a suicide bomber detonated an explosive inside the mosque in the suburb of Mulai, the BBC says. It adds that a second suicide bomber struck as people tried to escape.

The city has often been targeted by the extremist group Boko Haram, yet no group has yet said it was behind the attack during Thursday's evening prayers, that left many people injured.

On Tuesday, three bombs exploded in the same city, killing at least four people while dozens others were killed in three separate explosions in the city last moth.
