Malta condemns Ankara terrorist attack
28 people lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Ankara, Turkey yesterday night
Malta has expressed deep shock at the terrorist attack carried out yesterday evening in Ankara, Turkey.
In a statement, the government said it condemns in the most categorical terms, “this despicable act and expresses its profound sorrow at this loss of lives.”
The deadly attack shook the Turkish capital, leaving 28 people dead and many others injured when a bomb went off on a highway between the towns of Diyarbakir and Bingol
Earlier today, the Turkish prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the bombing in Ankara was carried out by Kurdish YPG militia based in Syria, with nine people being arrested in connection to the attack this morning.
Davutoglu said the fighters worked in co-operation with militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Turkey, after the country carried out strikes on PKK forces in north Iraq on Wednesday.
Davutoglu said 26 of the 28 people killed in the bombing of a military convoy in the capital Ankara on Wednesday were soldiers.
Speaking on behalf of the Government, foreign affairs minister George W. Vella conveyed sympathy and support to the Turkish Government and its people.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the victims and augured a speedy recovery to those injured.
