Powerful tornadoes lash several southern states and leaves some three people dead
Three people were killed as powerful tornadoes hit the southern United States on Tuesday according to officials.
According to international reports, the deaths occurred when mobile homes were destroyed when tornadoes struck Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida, with meteorologists saying that the storm system could also hit Alabama and Georgia later on Wednesday.
According to reports, two people died at a trailer park in Convent, southern Louisiana, where 90% of the homes were destroyed.
The BBC reports Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards saying it was a "minor miracle" that more people had not been killed because most of the trailers were occupied when the storm hit. However, some 30 others were taken to hospital in the state most of them from the trailer park.
According to reports. Another death occurred near the southern Mississippi town of Purvis, and a tornado was also reported in the northern Florida town of Pensacola, but local media did not report any fatalities. However, three buildings in an apartment complex were reportedly badly damaged and thousands of people in the region were without power.
