Aung San Suu Kyi gets back to work

Myanmar’s newly freed Aung San Suu Kyi returned to work for the first time in years in bid to rebuild her pro-democracy party.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner who has been locked up by Myanmar’s military rulers for 15 years, said she was willing to meet up with junta chief Than Shwe and talk through their differences.

Suu Kyi was freed from house arrest last Saturday. Yesterday she was already at her party’s headquarters addressing thousands of supporters in her first political speech in seven years.

After the turbulent elections which took place in Myanmar, the democracy leader promised to investigate the complaints about the poll. Opposition parties have complained of cheating and voter intimidation by the regime-backed party.
