Another Qantas flight returns to Sydney

A Qantas flight going to Buenos Aires returned to Sydney as it suffered technical problems. This is the second safety incident in less than two weeks for Qantas.

Qantas has already grounded six Airbus A380s as it is investigating the partial disintegration of a Rolls-Royce engine on November 4.

Now, a Qantas Boeing 747 was forced to make an emergency landing in Singapore following an engine failure.

“At the moment we don’t know what caused the issue but (we) believe it is a minor technical fault,” a spokeswoman for the airline said, adding that it was not common that technical issues would force an aircraft to return to its departure airport.

The airline said the flight with 220 passengers and crew has landed safely.

The Rolls-Royce may need to replace another 29 A380 engines, threatening airlines with further flight disruptions while the company provides replacements.
