One man killed in knife attack in Germany

One man killed and three injured in knife attack at Grafing station, some 40km east of Munich

One man was killed and three others wounded by a man brandishing a knife east of Munich, Germany, international media report.

The suspect, identified as a German national, attacked four commuters shortly before 05:00 on Tuesday at Grafing station, with one of the victims dying of his wounds in hospital.

A 27-year-old man was eventually overpowered by police and arrested, and police have said they are investigating a possible Islamist connection, after some witnesses said he shouted "Allahu akbar" ("God is great" in Arabic) but the motive for the attack is yet unclear.

An Upper Bavaria police spokesperson said that a "political motive" had certainly not been ruled out.

According to the BBC, footage from the scene showed bloody footprints on a train and the station platform in Grafing, a Bavarian town 40km east of Munich.

One of the platforms at Grafing station has been cordoned off and commuter trains have been hit by delays, the BBC adds.
