Trump says Elizabeth Warren is ‘very racist’
Donald Trump accuses Democratic Massachusetts senator of pretending to be a Native American so as to advance her careet
Donald Trump lashed out at Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren on Twitter, accusing her of pretending to be a Native American so as to advance her career.
“Goofy Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to as Pocahontas, pretended to be a Native American in order to advance her career. Very racist!” Trump tweeted.
The two have traded barbs throughout the week, and Warren –the Massachusetts senator - has emerged as one of the Democrats’ most outspoken Trump critics.
On Thursday, she called the Republican presidential candidate a “thin-skinned, racist bully” after he criticised a judge with Mexican heritage who is overseeing a lawsuit against the defunct Trump University.
“Pocahontas is at it again! Goofy Elizabeth Warren, one of the least productive US Senators, has a nasty mouth. Hope she is V.P. choice.” Trump tweeted in response on Friday.
Hillary Clinton also indirectly addressed Trump’s remarks on Warren, tweeting that “when he foes off his staff’s script, he insults anyone who challenges him”.
Warren met with Clinton on Friday, endorsing the former secretary of state. She’s been touted as a possible vice-president running mate for Clinton, and Trump has frequently said that he hopes he can face the two in November’s general election.
