Suicide bomber reportedly blows himself up outside Shia mosque in Qatif, Saudi Arabia

News agencies report two explosions near a mosque in the eastern Saudi Arabian city of Qatif.

Separate reports by Saudi-owned al-Arabiya TV and Al Jazeera detail another suicide explosion near the security headquarters of the Prophet's Mosque in Medina.

Witnesses earlier said a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a Shia mosque in Qatif this evening without causing any other injuries.

Residents said body parts belonging to the bomber were seen scattered on the ground in the city's business district.

One bomber is thought to have blown himself up near the mosque while the faithful gathered for sunset prayers during the final days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Witnesses report an explosion in a car parked near a mosque, followed by another explosion just before 7pm local time.

Earlier this morning, two security officers were injured as a suicide bomberblew himself up near the US consulate in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah.
