Two killed, 16 injured in Florida shooting
Two people were killed and up to 16 more injured after a shooting at a nightclub in Florida
Police have detained one person of interest in connection with the shooting that took place in a nightclub in the Florida city of Fort Myers.
The attack happened around 00:30 (05:30 CET) on Monday morning at Club Blu.
A police statement said injuries "ranged from minor to life-threatening". Most of the victims have been treated and released from the hospital, according to a spokeswoman, but two victims remain in the Intensive Care Unit, said Cheryl Garn, spokeswoman for Lee Memorial Health Systems. The BBC reports that there up to four people who remain in hospital with serious injuries.
The victims were between 12 and 27 years old, but police have not released details on those who were killed.
Club Blu released a statement on Facebook expressing its deep sorrow over the incident. It was hosting a Swimsuit Glow Party where no ID was required, according to a flyer.
Shots were fired outside in the club's car park where witnesses described the scene to reporters as a "mad house".
Police investigated two other locations in connection with the attack after shots were fired at a home and a vehicle where a minor injury was reported. Officers also searched the area for other possible suspects.
According to the Fort Myers police, three people have been detained and are being questioned about the shooting.
In a statement, the police said that they are still working to understand the motive for the incident.
