Huffington Post founder steps down as editor-in-chief
Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington steps down from post of editor-in-chief after 11 years, to pursue new venture focusing on wellbeing at the workplace
Arianna Huffington, co-founder of liberal news website Huffington Post, has announced that she will be stepping down from her position as editor-in-chief.
The 66-year-old will be running a new venture called Thrive, focusing on wellbeing and productivity. In a post on her Twitter feed, Huffington said that she had originally intended to keep working at both sites.
"When I decided to create Thrive Global, I thought it would be possible to build a start-up and continue as editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post. Today, it's clear that was an illusion.”
"I thought HuffPost would be my last act. But I've decided to step down as HuffPost's editor-in-chief to run my new venture, Thrive Global," she added
The Huffington Post was launched in 2005, and acquired by AOL in 2011 for $315m, and it has since established nine Huffington post international sites.
The liberal-leaning news reports, aim to be an alternative to conservative news aggregators such as the Drudge Report, and it offers news, blogs, and original features, in politics, lifestyle, and entertainment.
Huffington founded the site with Kenneth Lerer, Jonah Peretti and Andrew Breitbart. Peretti founded BuzzFeed and Lerer is its chairman, while Breitbart went on to create the rightwing news site that is named after him.
