The British Embassy in the Turkey’s capital city, Ankara, will close on Friday for the day due to security reasons, the UK foreign office said.

The announcement was made on the foreign office’s website about travel advice for Britons in Turkey.

“The British Embassy Ankara will be closed to the public on Friday 16 September for security reasons. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to within 10 km of the border with Syria and to the city of Diyarbakir,” the website read.

No further details were given.

The embassy was already closed from Monday to Thursday for the Eid al-Adha holiday this week, one of the two most important festivals of the Islamic calendar.

Turkey has been repeatedly targeted in the past by militants, both Islamist and Kurdish.

Germany temporarily closed its embassy, consular officers and a school on Wednesday amid reports of the possibility of attacks during the festival.
