New Jersey Transit train crashes into Hoboken station
A NJ Transit commuter train crashed into the Hoboken station in New Jersey this morning, with reports of injuries
A commuter train crashed at a station in New Jersey on Thursday morning, with reports of injuries and possible mass casualties.
The New Jersey Transit train derailed and crashed through the station in Hoboken, New Jersey during the morning rush hour.
The cause of the accident is not immediately clear, but New Jersey emergency's management system reported that more than 100 people were injured in the crash, and NJ Transit is reporting multiple passengers are trapped.
Pictures posted online by commuters showed a train carriage that appeared to have smashed right through the station concourse, collapsing a section of the roof, scattering debris and wreckage.
The Hoboken station is used by many commuters travelling into Manhattan from New Jersey and further afield, according to Reuters news agency.
Emergency services are on the scene and are helping to remove people from the train.
NJTransit said in a post on Twitter that rail service in and out of Hoboken station was suspended due to a train accident.
PATH trains said on Twitter that due to a New Jersey Transit train derailment at Hoboken station, all of its services were also suspended.
