Two earthquakes hit central Italy

The 5.6-magnitude earthquake was also felt in Rome

A second earthquake - thought to measure 6.4 - has hit Italy just two hours after a 5.6-magnitude earthquake was felt in Perugia.

Earlier today a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck central Italy, just two months after another quake killed 298 people and levelled small towns.

The earthquake's magnitude was originally determine to be 5.6 however this was later revised to 5.4, at a depth of 10km.There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake struck near the border between the regions of Marche and Umbria, with the epicenter near the town of Castelsantangelo sul Nera. It could be felt in Rome, at about 1710 GMT.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said he was in contact with the civil protection agency.

The earthquake was also felt in Amatrice, the town worst hit by the Aug. 24 tremor, according to RAI state TV.
