Infants released after being taken hostage in French nursery
A 17-year-old armed with two swords took 20 children hostage at the Chalres Fourier pre-school in Besancon in eastern France shortly after it opened.
The infants were gradually released during the course of the morning along with a teaching assistant. Police have arrested the youth involved.
Besancon mayor Jean-Louis Fousseret told French reporters that the teenager went into the nursery demanding something, though refused to expand on what the boy was demaning. The teenager is reported to be suffering from a personality disorder and contact has been made with his doctor.
The nursery is located in the Planoise neighbourhood of Besancon, an area with many housing projects and a large immigrant population.
