Chile earthquake prompts tsunami warning
7.7-magnitude earthquake strikes southern Chile, south-west of Puerto Montt
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake, with a depth of 15Km, has struck Chile, some 225Km south-west of Puerto Montt in southern Chile, according the US Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has said that dangerous waves were possible on coasts situated up to 1,000Km from the earthquake’s epicentre.
An evacuation of coastal areas of Los Lagos region has been ordered by the country’s national emergency office.
