In the post-Trump world: Kid Rock mulls Senate run
Michigan Republicans are reportedly considering asking the rocker to run in next year’s senate race
Michigan Republicans are reportedly mulling over a senate run by Robert James Ritchie, known better by his stage name Kid Rock.
According to Capitol Hill publication Roll Call, the singer’s name came up during discussions about the state’s senatorial race at a convention of Michigan Republicans.
If Rock were to be selected to run, he would face Democrat incumbent Debbie Stabenow. The seat is normally considered to be safe for Democrats, although it remains to be seen to what degree the political landscape has been changed in a state that was narrowly won by Donald Trump in last November’s presidential election.
Rock has openly stated he considers himself a Republican and had endorsed Mitt Romney in the 2012 election. He had originally supported candidate Ben Carson in 2016, before eventually backing Trump.
In fact, the rocker sells Trump merchandise through his own website, including t-shirts with the phrase “God, Guns & Trump” printed on the front.
Having succeeded in winning the White House with a former Reality TV start, it seems that Republicans are willing to accept any candidate, irrespective of their experience.
