German police shoot man who ‘drove into people’
German police shoot a man who drove into a central pedestrian area in Heidelberg and injured three people
German police have shot a man who reportedly drove a car into people in a central pedestrian area in the city of Heidelberg, injuring three people. Police spokesperson Anne Baas said the incident took place outside a bakery on Saturday afternoon, and that one of the three was seriously injured.
The suspect fled but was found by a police patrol, shot by an officer following a short standoff, and then taken to hospital. There was no immediate word on the man’s possible motives.
In December last year, an attacker drove a lorry into a Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people and injuring more than 50.
