Gunshots were fired Thursday night on the Champs-Elysées in Paris. The area has been closed and authorities are telling people to avoid the area.
One police officer was killed after a shooting incident, according to French police. It comes after one of the busiest roads in the capital was closed off by police as officers dealt with a 'suspicious package'.
Reports suggest that items were discovered by officers as Rue de Rivoli, in the centre of the French capital, remained shut.

Stunned witnesses have described seeing a large police presence on the two-mile-long road. It is believed that the Paris Metro service is not stopping there as officers try and deal with the incident.
French police tweeted, "Police intervention underway in the area of the #ChampsElysees avoid the sector and follow the instructions of the police forces."
A large police operation is taking place in the area with a large number of security vehicles on the normally crowded avenue.
