Former UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage has said that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has not made contact with him regarding allegations of Russian interference in the U.S. elections last November, and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Trump was elected despite losing the popular vote following a hard-fought campaign during which the Democratic National Convention was hacked and score of confidential emails leaked. U.S. intelligence services claimed they had evidence showing the hackers were Russian.

News reports earlier this week claimed that Farage had been named as a “person of interest” in the agency’s investigation, however the claims have been dismissed by Farage.

Speaking to BBC radio, Farage insisted that there had been no contact between him and the FBI and dismissed the claims as “hysteria”.

“No, of course they haven’t,” said Farage. “This is just hysteria.”

Former FBI director James Comey who was recently fired by President Trump is expected to testify before congress next week.
