Irish football manager’s daughter found strangled in Mauritius

The daughter of the prominent Northern Irish football team manager Mickey Harte was found dead in her hotel while on honeymoon in Mauritius.

Michaela Harte was found at the Legends hotel in Mauritius after she had been strangled.

Harte, 27, married John McAreavey, a member of Down football panel, on 30 December. Although he was questioned he is not considered a suspect.

Police have a list of ten suspects they intend to bring in for questioning later on today.

Police say the room was in disarray and they are examining CCTV footage from the complex.

The post-mortem carried out today revealed marks on the dead woman’s neck, signifying she had been strangled.

Harte worked as a teacher at St Patrick’s Girls Academy in County Tyrone and was a former contestant in the Rose of Tralee pageant.

She was very close to her father and was at his side when his team, Tyrone GAA, won the all-Ireland championships in Dublin in 2003, 2005 and 2008.
