Assange back in court today

Wikileaks leader Julian Assange is to appear in court later today where he is expected to find out the date of his extradition hearing.

Assange, 39, is wanted in Sweden in connection with sexual offences against two women though he denies the charges. He claims that the charges are politically motivated.

A two-day extradition hearing is expected to take place some time in early February.

It comes amid speculation that the grand jury in the US is investigating Assange and others for espionage.

Last week the US government issued subpoenas to social networking sites such as Twitter to release information of people connected to Wikileaks including Assange.

Assange was released on bail by a High Court judge in the UK just before Christmas after spending nine days in Wandsworth prison.

He has been staying with journalist friend Vaughan Smith at his manor home on the Norfolk-Suffolk border.
