OJ Simpson released from Nevada jail

Former American Football star and actor OJ Simpson has been released on parole after serving nine years in a Nevada jail.

Simpson had been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of armed robbery and assault with a deadly, in addition to 10 other changes back in 2007.

Simpson was sentenced to a maximum 33-year prison sentence after storming a hotel room in an attempt to seize items from two sports memorabilia dealers. The claimed the items, which belonged to him, where later handed over to him by officials.

In 1995, he was acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. Despite the not guilty verdict, a civil court jury held Simpson liable for the deaths of Brown Simpson and Goldman, awarding their families $33.5 million in damages. 

Simpson had told parole board members he hopes to move to Florida, where he has friends and family, a plan that must be approved by probation authorities there.

Among reasons the commissioners gave for their decision to allow Simpson to be freed on parole was that he had complied with prison rules during his incarceration, had no prior criminal convictions. He was also considered to pose a minimal safety risk to the public.

Simpson played more than a decade in the National Football League, most of that time for the Buffalo Bills in Buffalo, New York. While playing for the Bills, he became the first player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season.
