Egypt uprising report leads hackers to block MaltaToday site

Regular reporting and live feeds of the Cairo revolution has led 'unknown' sources to hack the MaltaToday site leaving visitors without access for over six hours yesterday.  The site was up and running at 22:30 and MaltaToday promises to continue to give live updates of the Cairo revolt

The latest news refers to former UN inspector El Baradej joining the Cairo revolt as the Army made a significant show of force in the city.  Protestors have defied the curfew.  Baradej is seen as a potential leader of the disjointed opposition.

EU leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel have called on Mubarak not to resort to violence.  And US secretary of State Hilary Clinton has appealed for a peaceful transition to democracy.

MaltaToday has been reporting live the Egyptian revolution.  More so because it has an important bearing on the whole Med region.  At around 1730 Sunday, the site literally collapsed after hackers managed to block the server.

It took over six hours to discover that the hackers had specifically targeted stories which embarrassed the Mubarak dictatorship.

It's called freedom of the press. Something which is denied in Egypt.
